Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship is designed to help stimulate career interest and foster the professional development of potential pediatric oncology nurses. The purpose of the Fellowship is to provide aspiring nurses with comprehensive clinical exposure to oncology nursing and to best practices in compassionate care. This enriching experience will also involve classroom time, including weekly Lunch and Learn educational sessions. Fellows will be provided the opportunity to participate in shadow days observing oncology related nursing roles across the full continuum of cancer care. Under the direct supervision of an RN, the Flynn Fellow participates in the delivery of nursing care to patients. This position exists within the content of a time-limited student experience. Works within the Clinical Nursing area in a support role, assisting nursing staff in the provision of care to pediatric patients and their families. The program is open to students enrolled in an RN nursing program and must be within 12 months of graduation by the start of the program. Applicants must submit a personal statement up to three (3) pages in length describing why you are interested in pediatric oncology nursing, career goals, and how this fellowship will assist you in attaining these goals. In addition, you must submit your transcript (inclusive of the previous Spring/Summer semester). Talent Acquisition will reach out with further details and instructions. Interviews and offers will be scheduled/extended on a rolling-basis. What you will do * Under RN supervision, assists in the provision of care to patients and families. Follows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. * Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, associates, and all others in a respectful, courteous, and confidential manner. * Follows hospital and departmental procedures and policies, including but not limited to patient safety, mandatory education, confidentiality, and attendance. * Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and use monitoring equipment, under direct supervision of RN/Preceptor. * Demonstrates high standards of professionalism by maintaining a professional image in all he/she does. * Responsible for efficient and cost-effective utilization of hospital resources. * Identifies own learning needs and obtains necessary education to meet requirements of position. * Flynn Fellows will be required to complete and present an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) project at the end of the fellowship. The EBP Project is an opportunity for each Flynn Fellow to utilize the principles and context of EBP to evaluate a nursing policy, nursing practice or procedure and make recommendations based on current evidence. Education Qualifications * Technical Diploma Enrollment in a Nursing Program Required Experience Qualifications * Work experience in a healthcare setting Preferred * Involvement in community service or holding a volunteer position Preferred * Involvement in formal campus programs Preferred * Completion of pediatric clinical experience prior to start of externship Preferred Licenses and Certifications * Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued by an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex.
