The OPS Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to clients, including diagnosing and treating acute, episodic, and chronic illness and helping to prevent diseases and injuries as part of a medical home team. Monitoring and oversight includes an established quality improvement process with ongoing chart review, including peer review. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing coverage as needed in the School-based health clinics and will be required travel to different clinic sites within Pinellas County. Your Specific Responsibilities: * Provides comprehensive health care to clients attending school-based health clinics as needed, with Gibbs High School being the primary location. * Provides support to any health department clinic when school clinics are closed. * Evaluates and performs complete physical examinations. * Analyzes and interprets patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses. * Diagnoses and treats acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries. * Orders, conducts, interprets, and/or evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition. * Orders, reviews and interprets laboratory tests to identify and assess patient's condition. * Prescribes and administers medications based on patient characteristics, efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized. * Makes medical diagnosis and prescribes treatment within scope of service. * Develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines. * Makes appropriate follow ups and referrals. * Educates patients about self-management of acute and chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. * Conducts patient intake, vitals, and history when nurse is absent. * Administers medications and monitors special diet carb counting when nurse is absent. * Responds to medical emergencies on school grounds. Communicates with school staff and emergency responders regarding patient needs and follow up. Required Knowledge, skills and abilities: * Knowledge of nursing principals, practices, and techniques. * Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. * Abiity to adminster prescribed medications. * Ability to perform complete physical appraisals of patients. * Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses. * Ability to initiate laboratory results and evaluate the results. * Ability to manage the care of patients * Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems * Ability to compile and evaluate medical histories and other clinical and laboratory data. * Ability to plan, coordinate and organize work assignments. * Ability to communicate effectively * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Qualifications: Minimum- * Clear and active license in the state of Florida to practice as an ARNP * Current active Florida Nursing License or a multistate license from another compact state * Willingness to travel and cover at multiple school-based clinic sites in Pinellas County as needed for coverage * Masters Preferred * Three or more years of experience in Pediatric or Family Medicine clinic setting * One year experience working as an APRN Florida Department of Health Mission, Vision, and Values: Mission: To protect, promote & improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county & community efforts.
