Supervisor Histology


Overview The Supervisor Histology oversees, performs and monitors a full range of laboratory procedures maintaining compliance with safety, policies, facility requirements, and regulatory standards during their designated shift or assigned discipline. This role is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations regarding staffs' performance, workload, interactions, quality of work, and staffing. Oversees laboratory personnel including training, performance, skills assessment, evaluations and disciplinary suggestions and follow through from Senior Leadership or Human Resources. Talent Pool: Allied Health, Professional Responsibilities Perform and oversee all processes associated with testing of laboratory specimens. Actively supports and complies with established laboratory protocols and regulatory standards to ensure effective operation of tests systems and compliance with safety and quality guidelines. Reviews quality control and quality assurance as indicated. Supervise daily operations: Oversee the overall functioning of the laboratory, including managing workflow, scheduling staff, ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures, competency assessments and adherence to quality standards while fostering a culture of collaboration and performance improvement.Meet technical training requirements, completes required competencies and assigned proficiency testing if applicable by the due date and maintains knowledge of procedure changes.Practices efficient use of supplies and actively participate in inventory control and purchasing to maintain a cost-effective and well-equipped laboratory. Provides comprehensive guidance to staff, offering support in procedures, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Promotes a respectful work environment. Communicate in a professional and courteous manner, serving as a resource and mentor to all. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and address customer service issues to ensure operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Investigate and follow up on issues, problems and complaints as brought up (internal and external).Participates in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific duties. Participate in inspection readiness and tracer activities for appropriate regulatory and accreditation agencies.Prioritizes duties and manages workload. Attend meetings as appropriate and participate on committees as requested. Other duties as assigned.Manages personnel and payroll functions of the lab, including interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, staffing plans, performance evaluations, staff development, coaching/counseling, and payroll timekeeping to ensure policy compliance and efficient staffing. Maintains regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific duties. Participate in inspection readiness and tracer activities for appropriate regulatory and accreditation agencies.Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION:Required: Bachelor?s in chemical, physical, or biological science. Bachelor?s Degree diploma must be provided. OR Bachelor?s degree in another field with a minimum of 60 Semester Hours specifically including, 6 hours of Chemistry, 6 hours of Biology and 12 additional hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer. Plus certificate from a NAACLS accredited school of Histotechnology or one-year of full time experience performing fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining and histology laboratory operations. EXPERIENCE:Required: 5 years of laboratory training and experience in a high complexity laboratory in designated specialty or subspecialty. Preferred: One to two years supervisory experience. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required: HTL (ASCP)-Certified Histotechnologist
