POSITION SUMMARY Pay range: $47.44/hr - $71.23/hr The Registered Nurse (RN) resident under the Nursing Residency Program provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. The Residency Programs are designed to build on the educational foundation of the novice RN. Every participant in the program is responsible for providing safe, holistic care to patients throughout the continuum of this program which is designed to offer up to 6 months of didactic learning and clinical practice preceptorship to achieve the programs core objectives. Each RN Resident will receive valuable mentorship and skill development within a supportive team environment. The RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics and meets the standards/expectations of Professional Practice. Professional accountability enriches the RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Performed majority of the time -- * Evaluates own knowledge and nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and evidence-based knowledge; identifies areas of strength and professional growth; sets and achieves professional development goals. * Evaluates knowledge and nursing practice of peers, recognizing strengths, providing constructive feedback and maintaining caring and compassionate relationships. * Evaluates patient outcomes against quality goals or benchmarks. Promotes innovation through participation in data collection, data analysis, evidence-based performance improvement plans, nursing or interdisciplinary research, and education about change methods. * Implements direct and indirect nursing care consistent with evidence-based practices, hospital policies and procedures, and scope and standards of practice. * Uses an evidence-based decision-making process to determine the patient's priority goals and care activities. * Protects and advocates for patient safety, health and wellbeing. * Keeps the patient as the focus when exercising judgment in accepting responsibilities, seeking consultation, and assigning activities to others who carry out nursing care. * Acts as a patient advocate by partnering with the person, family, significant others, and caregivers, as appropriate, to implement and evaluate the plan of care. Assures that the plan is aligned with the patient's physical, spiritual, and psychosocial goals, initiating changes as appropriate. * Delegates and supervises tasks consistent with other caregivers' scope of practice, adhering to standards, regulations, and role expectations including self-care and collaborative teamwork. * Delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights. Department specific responsibilities during each orientation: Acute Care (Medical Surgical and Observation) * Critical thinking skills to assess complex situations, analyze patient data, identify patterns, and make quick decisions. They use their expertise to anticipate potential complications, prioritize care, and adapt their strategies to provide the best possible outcomes for their patients. * Conducting thorough patient assessments, identifying changes in patients' conditions, and intervening promptly to ensure their safety. * Assisting patients in their recovery after surgeries, pain management, and monitoring for complications. * Safe administration and management of medications, educate patients about their medications, and monitoring for any adverse reactions. * Management of wound care including assessing wound healing progress, dressings, and prevention of infections in surgical, non-surgical wounds and pressure injuries. * Regularly monitoring patients' vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature, and respond promptly to any abnormalities. * Performing continuous telemetry monitoring of patients' heart rhythm, initiation of nursing intervention, and working with the interdisciplinary team to escalate patient conditions for rapid care. * Educating patients and their families about medical conditions, treatments, medications, and post-discharge care plans. * Collaborating with physicians, surgeons, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients, ensuring a holistic approach to their well-being. Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job: * Attends and participates in staff meetings, Unit Based Council meetings, in-services and continuing education opportunities. * Participates in clinical looping within other departments, e.g. radiology, laboratory, blood bank, and other nursing units, etc. * Participates in the Quality Improvement process to help make decisions that focus on the patient/customer and what is best for the organization. * Follows correct procedures in unusual and emergent procedures/ situations. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Required * Current Licensure as registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. * American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS. Preferred N/A Job Related Skills, Abilities and Behaviors: Required * Demonstrates excellent customer service skills * Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of rules/regulations established by governmental and regulatory agencies. * Practices effective communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and non-verbal. * Utilizes a problem-solving process to make decisions related to patient care and unit activity * Develops skills in use of hospital computerized information/ordering system. * Demonstrates proper, professional appearance and personal conduct. * Must clearly speak, write and communicate in the English language. * Demonstrates high level of technical proficiency with equipment and instrumentation used for surgical procedures. * Effectively manages the utilization of supplies. * Maintains HIPAA compliance and other patient confidentiality policies. * Follows policies for disposal of hazardous waste and sharps, use of personal protective equipment. * Displays an in-depth knowledge of specialty procedures and instrumentation/equipment. * Respects and advocates for patients/significant other's rights. * Performs or appropriately delegates all independent functions as defined in the Oregon Nurse Practice Act. * Creates an environment in which diversity is encouraged and honored.
