Registered Nurse JOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 09/24/2024 POSTING NUMBER: 00006799 LOCATION: District Wide POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse JOB DESCRIPTION: PRIMARY PURPOSE: Develop and implement a comprehensive program of health services for the assigned schools, including direct health services to students. Serve as a health advocate for students and staff. Promote health and safety education and preventive health practices for students and staff. Complete and document state-mandated health screenings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Program * Develop and implement a complete and functioning program to provide emergency health care within the school. * Assist in the control of communicable diseases by interpreting and implementing District policies and procedures and cooperating with Texas Department of State Health Services and Collin County Health Department for control of communicable diseases within the school. * Maintain student immunization records and ensure that students enrolled are in compliance with state law. * Refer students to the appropriate health care professionals for medical diagnostic services and treatment as needed. * Consult with staff members on student health problems, as appropriate, and provide assistance with individual cases as needed. * Enforce District policies and protocols for the safe administration and security of medications. Procure necessary first aid supplies and medical clinic equipment. * Plan, perform, and record health assessment and screening programs. * Participate in the implementation of the coordinated health curriculum. * Coordinate health service activities to support the instructional program. * Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required. * Comply with all nursing practices established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board policy in the area of health services. * Provide relevant counseling and guidance to students and parents so they may assume responsibility for maintenance of student health. * Facilitate family use of community resources for health-related needs. * Maintain an organized and efficient clinic area. * Timely and accurately enter Electronic Health Record documentation. * Complete other duties as assigned. Professional Growth and Development * Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. * Develop professional skills appropriate to the job assignment. * Maintain professional nursing skills and knowledge as required by the Texas Nurse Practice Act and the Texas Board of Nursing including certification for mandated screenings and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (CPR/AED). SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct the work and supervise assigned school clinic aide(s). WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; prolonged use of computer. Health care equipment normally associated with school clinics as well as equipment associated with specialized health services approved under Board policy. Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension. Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; frequent district wide travel. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policies and procedures. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health, or intensive care specialties REQUIREMENTS: Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification Valid registered nurse license by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of TexasG Special Knowledge/kills: Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects Ability to implement policies and procedures Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners Vision/Hearing, AN, and Spinal Screening certification Knowledge of basic first aid skills Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of Electronic Health Records CONTACT INFORMATION: Reports to: Director/Coord. of Health Services/Principal APPLY TO: SALARY: Pay grade: Professional (1) DAYS: 187
