SUBSTITUTE NURSE 2024-2025

"Job Title: School Nurse Wage/Hour Status: ExemptReports to: Director of Nursing Pay Grade: Teacher Steps Dept. /School: Nursing Services Days: 187 Supervises: School Health Aide Primary Purpose: To strengthen the educational process through improvement of the health status and learning of childrenQualifications:Education/Certification: Registered Nurse with academic preparation at the associate or baccalaureate level, BSN preferred. Current Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners. Current certification in CPR/AED.Special Knowledge Skills: Nursing care of the school age child Experience: Preferred: two years of supervised nurse practice preferably in pediatrics and medical/surgical nursing prior to entry into school nursing. Major Responsibilities and Duties:Provide assessment and nursing care for all ill and injured students. Utilize a district knowledge base for decision making in nursing practice. Use a systematic approach to problem solving in nursing practice. Contribute to the education of the student with special health needs by assessing the student, planning, and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating the identified outcomes of care. Use effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills. Collaborate with other school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students. Collaborate with members of the community in the delivery of health and social services, and utilize knowledge of community health systems and resources to function as a school community liaison. Assist students, families and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education. Contribute to school health through innovations on practice and participation in research or research-related activities.
