Job Description Assists in providing competent surgical care to patients and families whose healthcare needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and rapidly changing. Demonstrates technical, organizational, and team skills and acts as clinical resource. Proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Experience * Experience in entry level Preferred Qualifications * Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) * Experience in surgical assisting * Experience as a surgical technician * Experience in a pediatric operating room Education * High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from recognized surgical technologist program Certification Summary * Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Must complete orientation and initial assessment of competencies by due dates * Must complete mandatory education and annual competency assessment by due dates Job Responsibilities * Assists in delivery of competent patient care to patients to 21, integrating infection control, safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations, and knowledge of growth and development. * Provides technical skills required to assist surgeon or staff and operate surgical equipment in a safe and efficient manner. * Maintains knowledge of current equipment and supplies. * Utilizes effective communication skills in providing care to patients and families. * Assists in collaborative practice with healthcare team. * Demonstrates cost effectiveness and efficiency with regard to time management and supply use. * Participates in orientation of students, staff members, and other health professionals. * Understands and complies with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations. * Maintains reliable and timely communication with operating room nurses. * Remains informed and knowledgeable of current center core technology. * Replenishes supplies in surgical suites, on suture cart, and maintains adequate inventory levels. * Ensures guidelines for testing all sterilization equipment and results are recorded accurately. * Coordinates procurement for any specialty items by conjunction with center core coordinator. * Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of quality of services provided. * Provides instruments, case carts, supplies, and equipment in direct support of surgical suites. * Reviews schedule for coordination of necessary items for surgical cases. * Operates, tests, and maintains all cleaning and sterilization equipment. * Washes, organizes, and sterilizes instruments following established procedures. * Provides properly cleaned and sterilized instruments. * Assists circulating nurse with keeping preference cards updated. * Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings as defined by unit.
