Charge Nurse (RN) - Observation Unit - Day

Departmental Overview Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. Job Summary Job Summary * Assessment/reassessment - Systematically assesses / reassesses the health care needs of individuals; appropriate for specific age groups and patient conditions. Involves patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. * Nursing Diagnosis and Outcomes - Analyzes assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes, involving patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. * Implementation and Coordination of Care - Provides nursing care through interventions to achieve goals and needs using professional judgement guided by current practice standards, rules, regulations and policy. * Evaluates patient outcomes by utilizing the critical thinking process and evidence based knowledge to recognize problems, evaluate facts and reach sound conclusions. * Professional Practice * Serves as department leader alongside and in absence of the Manager. * Completion of QA Logs. Qualifications Education * Diploma or Associate's degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Experience * One year experience as a Registered Nurse required. (Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience). Licensure / Certification * Current Oklahoma Registered Nurse license or active Multistate RN license. * Basic Life Support (BLS) training or retraining is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. * Charge nurses maintains ACLS as a requirement to continue Bariatric Centers of Excellence.
