RN Research Nurse Coordinator ll - Neurology


Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Dr. Randall Bateman's lab investigates the causes, and diagnosis and treatments of Alzheimer's disease utilizing a wide variety of assays and techniques from basic applications, such as quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides to clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease. We have several ongoing clinical studies, including the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network - Observational Study: a long-term multisite study designed to monitor and identify changes in individuals who carry one of the gene mutations known to cause dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease. This study aims to define the natural history of AD and establish reliable biomarkers for disease tracking. This position is a lead member of a multidisciplinary research team and performs duties associated with the coordination and implementation of research studies/projects, data collection, and the management of data generated by study protocols, functioning as a participating site under the guidance of a central coordinating site. This position involves assessment of research participants and interactions with research participants, family, and caregivers in a research setting, including coordinating travel to and from the study site and providing long-term follow-up. This position includes extensive interaction with diverse participants, study sponsors, research staff and investigators. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: * Helps implement and independently performs research study and clinical procedures including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of participants to generate study data according to established protocol; collects data (e.g., basic health information and vital signs), may perform blood draws; coordinate LPs, MR scan sessions and autopsy collection. Documents processes as required by protocol; monitors and manages participants in the inpatient research unit; assists principal investigators and physicians. * Identifies, screens, and enrolls study participants; serves as the contact person for research participants; provides study participants, families, and caregivers education about the studies, dementia, and dementia care. * Coordinates handling of specimens, administration of clinical trials, collection of source information, case reporting, and participant payments. * Completes all required regulatory documentation and reports. Prepares/submits event reports in adherence with study procedures, budget, and established guidelines. * Assists in manuscript preparation and publishes jointly with the research group; assists research associates from sponsoring agencies, providing study explanations and repost as necessary. * May train and supervise staff and/or students assigned to work on the research projects. * Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein which may include reviewing scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments, coordinating brain donations and autopsy arrangements.
