FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more. How you will make an impact The incumbent of this position is the supervisor for the day/mid shifts HCC staff and is responsible for providing age/special needs appropriate nursing care to school age student patients ranging from preschool to 22 years. This includes assessment of student patient needs specific to their age. Nursing care is planned, interventions are performed to assure those needs are met and evaluated for effectiveness of nursing care. Health care services are provided according to physician orders, nursing clinical guidelines, FSDB and HCC policies and procedures. Demonstrate, model, and reinforce the Agency's fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork. * Perform assigned duties to include but not limited to administration of medication and treatments per MD order, monitoring and providing interventions to meet the needs of the students, completing accurate clinical documentation reflective of student current status and providing supervision and guidance to RN, LPN, CNA and other Allied Health Care Professionals. Ensure nursing personnel are following job descriptions and the students receive total quality nursing care. Review shift assignments and ensure that the assignments reflect the ability of the staff to meet the specific nursing care needs of the students. Ensure that work assignments are written, dated and posted. Receive notices of absence when nursing staff calls off, and coordinates assignments to maintain the needs of the students. Notify the Administrator of Allied Health of any emergency, respite in the department or transport of a student to local emergency department by the HCC. Make rounds throughout the HCC to observe students in the building to determine if nursing needs are being met. Observe nursing staff at least once in an 8-hour shift to ensure that nursing needs are being met. Ensure that timesheets and payroll is done accurately and timely. Discipline staff as per FSDB policy to correct poor performance. Involved in new hire process for night shift HCC staff and completes annual performance reviews. Review and follow-up incidents and or complaints occurring on assigned shifts. * Collects patient health data. Prioritizes and collects data based on the patient's immediate health care need or medical condition. Completes a comprehensive history of personal and health factors, medical treatment and prior treatment. Collects data from multiple sources using a variety of methods. Involves the student, parents, and interdisciplinary team members in the assessment process and data analysis. Assures that the assessment process is systematic and ongoing. Bases data collection on clinical judgment. Documents the database in synthesized, prioritized and retrievable form. Enters all contact and history information into EHR in a SOAP note format. Analyzes the assessment data in determining diagnosis and develops nursing diagnosis and problem statements from data. Discusses and verifies nursing diagnoses and risk factors with patient and parents. Assures that the nursing diagnoses and clinical impressions are documented in a manner that facilitates the identification of patient outcomes and their use in the plan of care. * Acts to achieve goals and improve performance. Maintains current knowledge in nursing practice. Participates in professional activities to improve professional knowledge and enhance role performance. Documents educational activities. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and others as colleagues. Assists others in identifying teaching/learning needs related to clinical care. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment. Assessments, actions and recommendations on behalf of students are determined and implemented in an ethical manner. Collaborates with the student, significant others and health care clinicians in providing health care. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering health care. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing for the school aged child and special needs child; Ability to utilize the nursing process and to collaborate with other health care clinicians is required; * Ability to effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing and electronically; * Ability to learn to communicate effectively in sign language; * Knowledge of general supervisory techniques; * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; * Skill and ability to provide professional, effective and confidential customer service; Knowledge of basic computer software; * Ability to maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy; * Skill and ability to use manual and electronic medical equipment including pulse oximeter, hemocue, glucometer, dynamap. * Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24. * Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI. Qualifications * Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and two years of professional nursing experience. * A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing can substitute for one year of the required experience. * A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing can substitute for the required experience. Sign Language Requirements Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire. Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills. Hiring Salary Range 10 month position: $43,149.60 - $50,649.60 annually. (paid biweekly over 26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and education. Hours Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm Vision FSDB will prepare each student for a lifetime of success.
