Job Title: Registered Nurse I, Charge Nurse Department: Urgent Care FLSA Status: Non-exempt We are looking for an exceptional Charge Nurse to join our practice! Physicians East, PA is a multi-specialty, multi-campus group based out of Greenville, NC offering a wide range of specialties. In addition to primary care the practice offers pulmonary and critical care medicine, rheumatology, dermatology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology, surgery, urology, and urgent care. Location & commitments Full Time/Part Time/Temporary/Supplemental roles based at our Greenville location, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Weekends 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Early and late hours required. Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care of, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Supervision Received: Reports to Clinical Supervisor; Location Manager; Director of Operations. Supervision Exercised: None. Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids. Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. About the role Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical practices. Performs under the direction of a physician or the RN and within the framework of the office policies and procedures for the Clinical Department. Responsibilities: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.) * Provider's assistant in the daily clinic assisting providers during office visits, physical exams, and in-office procedures as needed. Services include but are limited to: * Prepping exam rooms for clinical procedures and assisting practitioners with patient care. * Perform accurate measurement of vital signs, including orthostatic blood pressure, temperature, pulse, body weight, height, and complete appropriate health history questions. * Record medications, allergies, pertinent lab work, pharmacy, and PCP (Primary Care Provider) in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) * Ear lavage * EKG * Wound Care/Dressing Changes * IRIS * Catheters/Bladder Catheterizations * UNNA Boot Application * Assist with Pap Smear and related lab work * Patient Education * Injection Administration * Immunization Management * Prior Authorizations * Population Health and care gap closure * Follow standing orders as directed by department policies (i.e.. UA, Flu, Strep tests). * Preparing and administering medicines via PO, intramuscular, intradermal, intravenous, or subcutaneous route as per provider order. * Orders, stocks, and maintains exam rooms and clinic areas. * Notify patients of lab results. * Assist patients by answering phone calls and refilling medications at the direction of the physician. * Make referrals to other departments and clinics to coordinate patient care. * Disinfect exam rooms between patients. * Performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective manner according to Policy and Procedures. * Starts, maintains and disconnects IV as per physician or mid-level provider order. * Able to act as station floater including communicating panic lab values to care team, assist with same day requests and desktop management for station providers and staff. * Serves as Station Supervisor for multiple stations routinely. Advanced Responsibilities: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.) * Ability to perform provider assistant role for multiple providers interchangeably in the daily clinic assisting providers during office visits, physical exams, and in-office procedures as needed. * Able to act as multi-station floater including communicating panic lab values to care team, assist with same day requests and desktop management for providers and staff in all stations. * Precepts new hires and attests to competencies of department staff. * Back up to QMS Clinical Manager and/or Provider Scribe. * Communicate urgent practice issues and early closings that arise to Operations Manager if not present in the clinic. * Assess any patient that is turned away for care prior to leaving the facility. Ensures patient is able to drive to the ED if patient is referred to the ED for treatment instead of the practice. * Handles daily clinical call outs and find coverage. * Handles weekly/monthly clinical schedule ensuring coverage for each shift and assigns triage coverage to ensure maximum throughput with efficiency of the clinic top of mind. * Coordinates clinic flow to ensure patients are waiting the least amount of time possible. * Oversees patients getting IVs. Determine where to sit patients getting IVs to ensure exam rooms are not tied up too long. * Help with Fast Track patients. * Assign nurses to docs to ensure maximum clinic flow. * Train new staff and check off clinical competencies. * Ensure rooms are restocked daily. * Create and maintain a standing order for items. * Create clinical supply requisition for manager approval ensuring inventory controls. Stock should be no more than 1 week worth unless shipping time is greater than 3 days. * Ensure lunch coverage for staff working more than 6 hours. Other duties: * Maintains patient confidentially. * Keep management informed of high-risk situations. * Demonstrate appropriate use in cleaning of equipment. * Maintains licensure in accordance with North Carolina Board of Nursing. * Practice infection control, following OSHA guidelines and office policy. * Maintain CPR certification. * Attend fire safety classes, clinical meetings, compliance, and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East. * Adheres to department and office policies. Candidate requirements * Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Licensure: Must be registered with NCBON and in good standing. * Experience in electronic medical records (EMR/HER) software required. * Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families. * Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate and interact professionally with others. * Ability to actively listen. * Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately and cogently, in grammatically correct English. * Ability to spell, proofread and edit written text.
