NICU Registered Nurse - Full Time, Nights
Position Summary: To provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients within a specific nursing department. Performs duties in support of the hospital mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically responsible and efficient manner. Adheres to the Crozer Health Code of Conduct. Patient Population: Infants, preterm and term, experiencing significant life-threatening conditions who require multi-system support and monitoring. Accountabilities/Criteria * Develops a patient database through interviews, physical assessment, and psychosocial assessment. * Plans and provides patient care with the medical plan of care and is appropriate to the patient's age, developmental maturity, and functional status. * Administers medications in accordance with protocols and procedures. * Implement measures to maximize the safety and security of patients. * Performs treatments in accordance with protocols and procedures. * Instructs patients and families in care of self and infant in coordination with the medical plan of care. * Performs a comprehensive neonatal assessment. * Develops and institutes a teaching plan for the breastfeeding mother based on the Keystone 10 breastfeeding initiative. * Provides discharge instructions to patients and families, including medications, medical devices, and follow-up care needs. * Evaluates patient status through ongoing assessment and communicates significant symptoms, reactions, or changes of status to the appropriate provider(s) and/or individual(s). * Documents individualized plans of care provided in accordance with protocols and procedures. * Implements physician orders through appropriate clerical processing and direct implementation. * Responds appropriately to emergency situations including initiating cardio-pulmonary resuscitation or neonatal resuscitation when needed. * Identifies learning needs and participates in continuing education, conferences and/or in-services. * Attends vaginal and caesarean deliveries as needed/requested. * Attends a minimum of 50% of staff meetings * Completes all HealthStream education/assignments by their due date. * Other responsibilities/duties as assigned. Education and Licensure: * Graduate of a 2-, 3- or 4-year accredited school/college of nursing. * Current licensure to practice Professional Nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in good standing and/or active license from compact state. Experience and Knowledge: * Neonatal and/or Maternal child experience required. Registration, and/or Certifications: * Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) * BLS (Basic Life Support) Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements: * Heavy physical effort: lift, carry up to 50 lbs., Frequently handles/lifts/pushes patients. * Frequently handles/lifts equipment/supplies. * Mostly standing/walking, frequent kneeling/crouching, reaching, stooping/bending. Manual dexterity. * Ability to effectively communicate verbally. * Hearing acuity bilaterally within normal limits (0-24 d HL) (aided or non-aided). * Visual acuity of 20/60 in at least one eye (with or without correction.
