Job Location Duke Blood Cancer Center, 2400 Pratt Street, Durham, NC Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy outpatient team in the MPN/Leukemia Clinic. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis. * Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations. * Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities. * Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications. * Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records * Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection. * Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care. * Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members. * Participate in the education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners. * See scheduled and unscheduled patients. * Perform procedures including: * Bone Marrow Biopsies * Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy * Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy * Punch skin biopsy with simple suture. * Attend program required meetings. * Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME. * Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies. * Maintain institutional requirements for compliance. Additional preferred skills and qualifications: * Ability to work in a team-oriented clinic * Willingness to be flexible and available to support the team. * Analytical thinking skills with curiosity and ability to investigate and diagnose. * Competence with technology * Excellent communication skills and customer service skills * Experience working independently and as a part of a team * The desire and willingness to continue to learn Job Eligibility Requirements Education * Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. * Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. Certification * Physician Assistant Certification * Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification * Licensed in the State of North Carolina * BLS required * ACLS preferred License * Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment. * Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Experience * 1+ years of oncology APP experience strongly preferred.
