Occupational Health Nursing Specialist
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for the development, administration and implementation of occupational health and wellness services to TPC employees. The OHN provides emergency medical services and first aid care to company personnel who become injured or ill on the plant premises. Responsibilities * Facilitates procedures, protocols, and measurable outcomes to ensure the delivery of occupational health programs. * Medical Surveillance * DOT and Company programs for Random Drug Screens * Company and Pipeline Alcohol Misuse & Controlled Substance Plan and Training * Participates as a member of the Company Pandemic Task Force * Responsible for pandemic case management and metrics reporting * Chemical Exposure & First Aid Measures * Workers Compensation * Return to Work * Bloodborne Pathogens Control Plan * Immunizations * Wellness and Health Counseling * On-Site Illness/Injury Management, which includes * Emergency medical response provided for minor illnesses and injuries * Contacts health care provider/physician & hospital to arrange for further medical treatment if required * Conducts patient assessments & medical care for minor illnesses and injuries * Performs follow-up medical care as needed * Maintains first aid stations with over-the-counter medical supplies for self care * Workers' Compensation * Prepares & maintains separate files for First Report of Injury, other workers' compensation forms & TPC Injury Reports as needed for on-the-job injuries * Collaborates with and provides support to Human Resources (HR) & Site Leadership concerning workers' compensation and medical disability issues, including medical ability to perform all assigned tasks. * Communicates with workers' compensation carrier, health care provider / physician, employee's supervisor and employee * Performs follow-up and tracks progress of medical care provided * Performs a job analysis of injured employee's job tasks to assist in return to work medical evaluations * Collaborates with HR, site Safety Manager, and Site Leadership for return to work * Off-Site Medical Clinic Management * Collaborates with company physician on appropriate physical examination protocol and tests to be performed * Collaborates with clinic, company physician and employee concerning physical examination results * Monitors medical services rendered by clinic * Monitor and track medical spending and cost of physical examinations * Review medical qualification documents for discrepancies * Audit clinic for performance and compliance with TPC protocol * Medical Record Keeping * Establishes and maintains OSHA-required documents including * Medical surveillance * Medical clearance for ERT members & respirator use * Respirator fit testing reports * Hearing Conservation/OSHA Standard Threshold Shifts * Bloodborne Pathogens Standard/Hepatitis B vaccine for ERT members * DOT and random drug screens * These documents are maintained in locked cabinets * Collaborates with Training to ensure emergency medical training documents are maintained for ERT first responders * Maintains first aid reports * Disability Case Management * Manages the interface between employees, management, HR, & medical providers for to ensure adherence to company policies and applicable legislation such as FMLA * Tracks the status of disability cases and proactively intervenes with medical providers, management and HR to minimize absences * Ensures compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to employee privacy as it relates to medical records and / or files * Maintains company policies and processes on disability management and substance abuse * Maintains metrics on employee absences and reports these to management * Schedules and leads medical case reviews and ADA reasonable accommodation reviews with appropriate management * Collaborates with health & safety staff and plant management in developing goals & objectives for the Occupational Health Services * Ensures services are compatible with company goals & objectives * Evaluate the work environment and assists in strategy development for a safe & healthy workplace * Emergency Medical Response Team Member * Works with Medical Provider to update Medical Response Protocols for OHN as well as ERT Medical Team * Participates in medical budget planning Skills & Experience * Occupational health, emergency medical care, workers' compensation system, OSHA, DOT and other state and federal regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety in the workplace, wellness program development and implementation. * 10-12 Years' Occupational health nursing experience in an industrial setting (manufacturing, refinery, chemical facilities) * Licensed RN required; Occupational Health Nursing Certification preferred * Good interpersonal skills * Ability to work in a team/group environment * Active listening ability * Ability to prioritize tasks & time management * Results oriented & driven * Professionalism * Proactive problem solving * Capable of giving presentations * Computer literate in Word and Excel Education * BSN or Associate Degree in Nursing
