JOB SUMMARY: Join an amazing regional resource for Maternal Fetal Medicine care and high-risk obstetric imaging. Major holidays off, no call or weekends. This position is responsible for performing high level obstetric imaging including fetal ECHO and ultrasound guidance for related procedures by MFM specialists and fellows while maintaining regulatory and professional ultrasound standards within an academic office setting. This individual must exhibit strong decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize. A close working relationship with other sonographers, providers, learners, and medical staff is essential to maintain cost-effective and patient-focused care for complex maternal and fetal conditions. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 95%, Clinical Activities * Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures. * Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information including records received from outside providers, hospital system and EMR. * Perform ultrasound procedures completely with independent judgement, initiative and accuracy. Assess the quality of sonographic images produced and state if there are limiting factors affecting the study. Communicate initial findings to patient in a manner appropriate to patient's ability to comprehend information. * Accurately label each ultrasound performed. Complete all preliminary ultrasound reports and assure completeness of all ultrasound records and follow-up with referring care providers for MAHEC patients from all Departments. * Communicate ultrasound findings to care providers immediately if indicated by preliminary ultrasound report. Obtained additional images as warranted by initial screening exam. Notify the maternal-fetal specialist of any suspected abnormalities per protocol. * Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies and procedures. * Assign appropriate priority to patient scheduling of work-ins and accommodates emergencies, if possible. * Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators, support staff, physicians, and other members of the health care team. 5%, Administrative Activities * Assist in the maintenance of the ultrasound literature file. * Perform and document quality control procedures for ultrasound and sterilization equipment to ensure patient safety, optimal machine performance, and effective preventive maintenance. * Assist with image capture and reporting to ensure appropriate accreditation is secured and maintained (AIUM, AAAHC, etc.) This role description is a general description of the essential job functions. SPECIFIED SKILLS * COMPUTER * Excellent skills with imaging software, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications preferred. * FOREIGN LANGUAGE * Spanish speaking skills preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Frequently stands, walks, uses hands to handle or feel, reaches with hands and arms, bends, talks, and listens. * Sometimes sits, climbs, and stoops or kneels. Lifts up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate. Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program with a concentration in ultrasound technology. * PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ARRT registration in radiologic technology preferred. REQUIRED LICENSES: ARDMS registration and active status required. SCHEDULE: Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
