Position Summary: The ED Student Nurse Tech assists with direct patient care, including vital signs, personal hygiene, dietary needs, and ambulation. Reports to the Charge Nurse. The Student Nurse Tech performs patient transport, obtain lab specimen such as urine, performing point-of care testing such as Accu-check, and recording of patient data in medical record. In this role, the Student nurse Tech also has the responsibility to round on patients, greet and direct all visitors, answer phones, take messages, complete daily patient logs, and assist with other tasks as directed. The Student Nurse Tech performs peripheral IV insertions. He/she also obtains blood specimen for laboratory studies. This role can be an on-the-job training. The Student Nurse Tech performs 12-lead EKG and connects telemetry monitoring equipment on patients.
