Supervisory Psychiatric Nurse


General Job Information JOB SUMMARY The incumbent exercises responsibility for supervising the Clinical Services Administration, and Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program nursing services. Responsible for the supervision and management of all clinical personnel on the shift and coordinates the operational functioning of CPEP on the shift assigned. Acts as liaison for nursing with other programs, health care facilities, and community agencies. Keeps the Nursing Supervisor, Chief Nurse, and Program Director informed of pertinent issues. Makes major decisions affecting the basic content and character of shift nursing. Identifies and develops long and short-range plans and ensures the development and implementation of new directions. Participates in management meetings and makes significant contributions on matters involving program issues. Oversee coordination of all program and staff activities. Assist CNO with nursing management, education, and leadership training, compliance to DBH, DCH, CMS, regulatory and professional standards, as well as CPEP policies and procedures. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to maintain CPEP's strategic plan, quality improvement auditing, monitoring and surveillance of activities, and nursing department initiatives. Collaborate with CNO to maintain Infection prevention and control program to include compliance, data reporting and gathering, and staff education. Collaborate with nursing leadership and staff to review policies and procedures governing professional organization and nursing practice. Develop, coordinate, implement, and manage education activities based on issues related to clinical and nursing practices. Teach the nursing process and evaluates educational needs and learning opportunities for nursing staff; and provide ongoing feedback. Facilitate patients throughout and foster a patient-centered environment of care. Plan skills, educational presentations, and annual skills day, using nursing principles, theory, and evidence-based practice. Plan, and implement orientation and onboarding of new hires, conduct in-service and continuing education, and maintain CPR, competency programs, and licensing requirements. EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Applicants must possess an Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing, at least One (1) year of specialized professional nursing as a Registered Nurse must be sufficiently related to psychiatric nursing in a hospital setting. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, this position requires One (1) year of Professional experience at the next lower level equivalent to DS-12. Specialized experience which is directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties. Selective Placement Factor(s): It is preferred that the candidate possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing. Number of Vacancies: One (1) Work Environment: The work is performed in close proximity to psychiatric consumers with behavioral disorders. Pay Plan, Series, and Grade: MS-610-13 WORKSITE 1905 E Street, S.E., Bldg. 14, Washington, D.C. 20003 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of a non-expired DC Driver's License or Non-driver's license and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7 years will result in forfeiture of employment.
