"POSITION: Licensed Speech Pathologist EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: According to district approved calendar DEPARTMENT: Special Services REPORTS TO: Lead Speech Pathologist SUPERVISES: Assigned personnel EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university with 24 hours in speech pathology/audiology Valid Texas Assistant's license in Speech-Language Pathology EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of speech therapy General knowledge of curriculum and instruction 25 hours of clinical observation 25 hours of clinical assisting experience Position Function/Purpose Provide appropriate instruction for students with communication disorders. Aid them in fulfilling their potential for intellectual and social growth. Essential Functions Instructional Management - At the direction of the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), and with appropriate training, the assistant shall: 1. Conduct or participate in speech, language, and/or hearing screening with the appropriate training. 2. Implement the treatment program or the Individual Education Plan designed by the licensed Speech-language pathologist. 3. Provide carry-over activities that are the therapeutically designed transfer of a newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations. 4. Collect data. 5. Administer routine tests, if assistant has been appropriately trained and the assessments are conducted under the direction of the supervisor. 6. Maintain clinical records. 7. Prepare clinical materials. 8. Participate with the licensed SLP in research projects, staff development, public relations programs, or similar Student Growth and Development 9. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. 10. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district. School/Organization Climate 11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students. 12. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations. 13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students. 14. Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale within the school. School/Organization Improvement 15. Participate with other staff in building a common vision for school improvement. 16. Participate in planning and implementing activities to ensure attainment of school's mission. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management 17. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. School/Community Relations 18. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 19. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development 20. Demonstrate interest and attend professional development by attending in-service meetings, workshops and conferences. 21. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics. 22. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness. Policy Implementation 23. Keep informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. 24. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required. 25. Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Working Conditions: 1. Emotional - Maintain emotional control under stress 2.
