Job Title Inaugural Director of Nursing Agency Texas A&M University - Kingsville Department Provost & Vice-President For Academic Affairs Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Kingsville, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Job Summary The Inaugural Director of Nursing is a 12-month faculty position that will be responsible for the establishment, development and administration of a new Rural Nursing program focused on serving South Texas. In collaboration with others, the Director will provide leadership of the degree program proposal, establishment of partnerships with community colleges, high schools, and others on growth opportunities, and effective management of resources. The University currently offers a Biomedical Sciences Pre-Professional Option undergraduate program which can be expanded to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to provide students with a contiguous and seamless course of study to earn a Registered Nursing, BSN, the preferred degree for regional health care. The University currently intends to partner with community colleges to offer the RN to BSN in hybrid and online modalities. The University has been partnering with the Texas A&M Health Science Center's School of Pharmacy and the Community Action Corporation of South Texas on a comprehensive, strategic plan to establish a South Texas Health Hub to provide rural south Texas citizens with clinical, research and academic programs. As part of this initiative, the University is planning to develop a College of Nursing and Allied Health which will address the regional needs for nurses with the appropriate degree required by hospital systems in the South Texas region. The Director of Nursing may have the opportunity to serve as the Dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health, once established. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Oversees the development of the curriculum, space and eventual clinical components of a BSN Nursing Program, focusing initially only on the RN-BSN. * Secures and maintains accreditation of the RN-BSN program(s) through continued compliance with required state and accreditation standards; Ensures compliance with all regulatory and statutory guidelines * Hires and supervises faculty and staff in the program. * Monitors student data including student success rates, recruitment, retention, and graduation rates, and establishes student support plans for meeting standards required of the program either externally or internally through the University's strategic plan. * Oversees and monitors the quality of instruction. * Establishes policies and procedures needed to advance the new degree program(s) and ensures currency and compliance with regulation and standards. * Performs other duties as assigned * Teach one course a semester as schedule permits, maximum of 3 hours a week. * Establish articulation agreements and collaboration with other surrounding schools to develop a pathway for students to complete degree. Minimum Requirements * Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field. If the doctorate degree is not in nursing, the candidate must have a Master of Science in Nursing. * Possess and maintain a valid, active unencumbered Registered Nurse license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing. * Meet requirements for "Director" according to Texas Board of Nursing regulations and ACEN standards. * Two years of teaching experience in professional nursing education * Three Years of Academic administrative experience * Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work cooperatively with others. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications * A track-record of significant accomplishments in research and teaching at a level sufficient to qualify for appointment to the rank of associate or professor with tenure in one of the Departments of the University * Five years of experience in college administration management or nursing program development. * Experience with concept-based curriculum. * Experience with curriculum development at the Program level. * Experience with assessment and evaluation of program outcomes based on accreditation standards. * Experience with data interpretation and analysis for program outcomes. Location The University is located in historic Kingsville, a friendly, safe city of 25,000 that is the home of the legendary King Ranch. Corpus Christi (population: ~350,000) and its beaches are just 40 miles to the northeast, and the border with Mexico is 120 miles to the south at Brownsville or 119 miles to the west at Laredo. The region boasts world-class fishing and birding, access to the longest, undeveloped barrier island in the world (Padre Island National Seashore), and a friendly, diverse community rich in history and culture.
