"NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title: Substitute RN/Clinic Dept. /School Multiple Campus Locations Date Revised: 10/17/23 Primary Purpose: 1. Maintain standard clinic activities in the absence of the school nurse. 2. Promote health, well-being and academic achievement of all students by performing an assessment of health disorders and providing appropriate treatment and/or medical interventions as ordered by the students' physician. 3. Provide direct patient care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols. 4. Complete appropriate patient documentation in a timely manner. 5. Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases. (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached) 6. Serve as a health care advocate for students. 7. Maintain a safe and orderly clinic environment. 8. Ensure confidentiality for all students and staff members receiving care in the campus clinic. 9. Administer medications and treatments according to NISD guidelines. 10. Present a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. 11. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 12. Assesses, documents and provides care to NISD staff members who are injured during the scope and course of his or her job duties. 13. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 14. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 15. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. 16. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required. 17. Articulate the district's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. 18. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs. Qualifications: Professional Registered Nurse Bachelor's Degree Preferred Valid Texas Nursing License CPR Certification Five years nursing experience as RN preferred Certified by Texas Department of Health and Human Services for Vision, Hearing, Spinal and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screening preferred Equipment Used: Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, equipment used with medically fragile students, personal computer, and copier Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A Working Conditions: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computers. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, keyboarding, overhead reaching and pulling Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.
