Job Summary: The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist IV provides professional care in the SHVI Invasive Cardiac, Pediatric and Peripheral Laboratories in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist IV provides professional care in the SHVI Invasive Cardiac, Pediatric and Peripheral Laboratories in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The Invasive Cardiology - Cardiovascular Specialist IV will be hired into an Adult Procedural Role in the Cardiac Cath Lab or EP Lab, or a Pediatric Procedural Role encompassing both Cardiac Cath and EP. Essential Functions * Performs and/or assists with treatments, therapies, and procedures (including scrub assistant, monitoring and circulating) under the direction of the physician. * Administers medication under the direct supervision of the physician. * Documents a current clinical picture and records designated information in the patient record. * Utilizes verbal and non-verbal communication in interactions with patients, families, visitors, physicians, nursing and hospital personnel. * Conveys relevant information to physicians and staff. * Participates in performance improvement activities. * Calculates, interprets and analyzes data. * Assists in development of policies, procedures and standards of care reflective of current practice/literature. * Participates in departmental education and training that supports job role/function * Demonstrates evidence-based practice. * Participates in committee and governance activities. * Demonstrates leadership in role as a preceptor and serves as a clinical resource for others. * Set up and monitor EP recording computer monitor system, label printouts, display electrode combinations, measure cycle and interval lengths, reports changes noted to MD (Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist) * Assist physicians with mapping, stimulating, and catheter insertions (Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist) * Programs pacemakers and defibrillators before implant. Measures signal conductivity of electrode leads with the Pacemaker System Analyzer (PSA) during procedures. Ensures active operation of device after implantation. Reprograms devices for procedures as needed (Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist) * Deactivates defibrillators in surgery at request of anesthesiologist according to anesthesiology guidelines and supervision (Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist) * Assists in the in-servicing of new Electrophysiology staff in electrophysiology topics (Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist) Physical Requirements Intermittent to rapid pace with high pressure situations, requiring periods of prolonged concentration and critical thinking. Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English is essential. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, manual dexterity, good eye hand coordination. Standing and walking while wearing 10-20 lbs lead radiation protection aprons. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Potential exposure to radiation, secretions and blood. Confined work area. Travel may be required. Education, Experience and Certifications Satisfactory completion of high school and an accredited program of Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary technology, The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, nursing or related field required. Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist/Electrophysiology Specialist training or experience preferred. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Certification, Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist Certification and/or equivalent certification required. Maintains current BLS, ACLS and CCI requirements. The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist IV and the Registered Electrophysiology Invasive Specialist IV must successfully meet and maintain required competency requirements as outlined in the career ladder.
