Job Description Essential Job functions: * Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access. * Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians. * Maintains efficient patient flow. * Delivers direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SUMMIT policy. * Collects lab specimens according to departmental guidelines. Accurately labels specimens. * Prioritizes patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures. * Ensures proper preparation for patient visit. Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit. * Effectively communicates problems, concerns or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly. * Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care. * Ensures proper preparation for patient visit. Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit. * Employs appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR. * Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR. * Administers injections according to appropriate protocol. Documents injections accurately in EHR. * Appropriately demonstrates telephone triage protocols and document in EHR. * Schedules appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines. * Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste. * Reviews and updates medication list in EHR. Demonstrates understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. Accurately and completely documents known allergies in EHR. * Appropriately enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR. * Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR. * Checks and maintains logs for emergency equipment according to policy. * Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital. * Maintains proficiency with department specific equipment troubleshoots and reports malfunctions promptly. Chemotherapy Infusion Department: * Cross train to mix chemotherapy when pharmacy backup is needed * Support and cross train RN Navigation/Triage * Responsible for administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antibiotics, symptom management, and patient education including coordination of patient care activities with other members of the health care team * Management of Central Line Catheters such as Port-a-Cath and PICC lines * Provide care according to the individualized needs of the patient using the nursing process and in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Charge Responsibilities (as applicable per department need): * Primary point person for staffing call-outs and reshuffling staff/filling shifts (as assigned by day - mostly weekends) * Serves as key point of contact for the assigned day to address questions, issues, patient complaints, and closing sites (with manager involvement) * May assist with scheduling of staff, as needed * Coordination of the shift and patient flow both inter and intra department; * Serves as a resource within the unit and to other departments regarding unit specific best practice; * Assigns roles for the day, including triage assignments; * Assist triage to determine patient assignment to appropriate service area; * Proactively monitors and manages shift staffing to meet patient needs and productivity targets; * Collaborates with department supervisor to optimally manage shift crises; * Demonstrates ability to set priorities and adapts quickly to new situations; * Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) within the scope of practice) in collaboration with the clinical supervisor; * Oversees daily computerized task list and manages time sensitive results; * Planning, organizing and coordinating daily operations, to include sick calls as needed; * Help provide coverage for breaks and lunches; * Ability to document in Electronic Medical Records with proficiency; * Ensures all daily, opening and closing processes are completed; * Serves as primary point person for all operating questions; * Assist providers in Peer to Peer calls and hospital admits; * Completes e-risk documentation for code team response and ensure supply replenishment; * Maintain equipment, safety compliance and supplies for assigned location; * Read daily huddle, update board as needed; * Serves as a role model and mentor; teaches guides and supports the clinical staff; * Lives, models, applies and assures the delivery of quality care; * Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others; * Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests; * Demonstrates awareness of and supports departmental and SMG goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities; * Ensures policies and procedures are properly communicated and adhered to; * Attend Clinical staff meetings; * Contributor to accreditation process as needed. General Job functions: * Assists in ordering and maintaining of all supplies as assigned. * Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules. * Other duties as required. Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements: * Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred. * Oregon State Nursing License and BLS certification required. * 0 - 1 years experience. 2-4 years experience preferred. * Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing. * Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. * Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy. * Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills. * Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred. * Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment preferred. * Experience with patient care equipment preferred. * Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred. In addition to the above requirements, if position is in the Chemotherapy Infusion department, the below are also considered: o 3 years' oncology experience preferred. o OCN preferred. o ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification within 90 days of hire/transfer o Excellent peripheral IV skills. Travel: * Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed.
