Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS or MT) - Pathology - Hematology

Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As a MLS, you will: * Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department * Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity * Communicate test results in a timely manner and to enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems * Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment * Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity * Works alternate shifts as required * Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution * Bachelor's degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable * For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required Preferred: * Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency Other Information * 40 hours a week * 4 (10 hour) shifts: 1 pm - 11:30 pm * Required to work a rotational weekend schedule for every 3rd weekend * Required to work rotational holidays * Career Level Availabilities / Growth Opportunities * Great Benefits General Statement It is the goal of ECU Health and its entities to employ the most qualified individual who best matches the requirements for the vacant position.
