Staff RN- Maternity- (7p-7a)
UPMC Cole is hiring a Staff RN for our Maternity department. This position will coordinate total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Shift: Primarily Night Shift (other shifts as needed for coverage) Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM Weekend/Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and rotating holidays per CBA SIgn-on Bonus: $20,000 for experienced nurses (over 1 year). $15,000 for graduate nurses. Additional Candidate Preferences: * Preferred Experience: NRP * Training provided post-hire if needed General Nursing Duties: * Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the Hospital and Nursing Department, including its philosophy, mission, and values. * Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, determine outcomes, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those outcomes and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning. * Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to meet the outcome needs of the individual patient. * Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding the patient to the appropriate person (e.g., physicians, director, nurse manager, charge nurse, and/or nursing supervisor) and record those observations accurately and concisely. * Assign nursing care to team members in accordance with patient needs and the personnel's capabilities and qualifications, and assign other duties as needed. * Administer medications and perform treatments on assigned patients. * Direct, supervise, and evaluate nursing care provided to patients. * Assist physicians with special tests and procedures, such as thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc. * Participate in the economical utilization of supplies and ensure that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. * Participate in the orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of the nursing staff. * Assist team members in giving care to patients or administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed. * Coordinate nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments. * Establish and maintain communications and utilize teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals. * Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients, such as cardiac arrest. * Participate actively in committees for the improvement of nursing care. * Possess skills necessary to provide care/services appropriate to the age of the patients served. * Be involved in surveillance and ensuring the patient safety culture at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Report patient safety concerns and events. * Exhibit accountability and contribute to patient safety. * Assess and monitor the patient's level and response to pain. * Educate patients in pain management and its impact on patient outcomes. * A Registered Nurse who has taken a basic arrhythmia class and completed the competency will be expected to do telemetry monitoring in the ICU, if floated there. * Perform telemetry monitoring, as required. * Conduct hourly rounding on assigned patients. Specialized Units: PACU, ICU, SPU, OB: * Display knowledge of anesthetic agents, narcotic analgesics, reversal drugs, and other drugs commonly utilized in Post Anesthesia Care. * Be familiar with surgical procedures and their implications in post-operative care. * Be aware of complications related to surgical procedures/anesthesia and when to notify the surgeon/anesthesia. ER, ICU: * Recognize arrhythmias. * Perform 12-lead EKGs. ICU: * Function as Code Team leader, as required. * Perform defibrillation. * Monitor vital signs via central and arterial lines. * Care for patients on ventilators. Oncology: * Display knowledge of disease processes and their effects. * Display knowledge of chemotherapy agents and administration. * Assess medi-port/port-a-cath for administration of chemotherapy agents and obtain blood samples for lab tests. * Provide technical assistance in monitoring patients and managing side effects of treatment and pain. * Evaluate side effects of treatment. * Understand differences in administration of vesicant and non-vesicant chemotherapy drugs. * Treat infiltration/extravasation of vesicant and non-vesicant chemotherapy drugs. * Manage toxic spills and discard chemotherapy waste. * Assess and reassess pain for adequate pain management. Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit Specializing in Geriatrics: * Possess accurate knowledge of psycho-dynamics and therapeutic processes, evidenced by effective intervention and resolution of milieu problems as they occur, and appropriately communicate the processes to others. * Utilize knowledge of growth and development, psychopathology, and psychosocial systems, evidenced by accurate assessments and Nursing Care Plans. Actively participate in staffing and case conferences. Recognize and respond appropriately to symptoms and behavior. * Set appropriate limits as needed by recognizing potential behavior problems and doing this in a caring, consistent manner, evidenced by avoiding power struggles, escalation, and manipulation by patients and employees. * Display respect for patient integrity, evidenced by maintenance of confidentiality and patient rights. Qualifications: A current PA RN nursing license required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Registered Nurse (RN) *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
