Professional Staff Nurse - Operating Room
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring full-time Professional Staff Nurses for the Operating Room. The position involves rotating twelve and eight-hour shifts. As a perioperative nurse, you'll advocate for patients and serve as a circulating nurse in the OR. Training provided. The OR is a welcoming and evolving unit, ideal for nurses who enjoy focusing on one patient, collaborating with colleagues, and embracing technology and innovation. Children's Hospital OR serves patients from neonatal to young adults, covering various surgical services like General, ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Transplant, Ophthalmology, and Genitourinary procedures. With 14 state-of-the-art operating rooms, we operate 24/7 as a Level 1 Trauma and Transplant Center, handling about 42 cases daily and 12,000 annually. The OR offers self-scheduling with flexible options, staggered orientation, and perioperative training for new OR nurses. Responsibilities: * Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunity for quality improvement to colleagues and management. Creates an environment of open dialogue, inquiry and continuous development by asking for feedback and improving practice. * Performs scrub role (requirement for RNs hired on or after July 17, 2023) Qualifications: * Minimum six months experience is preferred. * Operating room experience is preferred, but not required. * Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. * Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. * Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. * Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. * Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. * Mobility and visual manual dexterity. * Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: * UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
