Unit Director, NICU
UPMC Hamot, a Magnet designated facility located in Erie, PA is hiring a Unit Director to oversee our Level III NICU! This position is full-time primarily day shifts; off shift and weekends may be required. $15,000 sign-on bonus available for experienced nurses. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Purpose: The Unit Director is accountable 24/7 for leading and managing their area to ensure excellent patient and employee experiences. They focus on improving patient care quality, creating a healthy workplace, and overseeing clinical and administrative functions. Responsibilities include collaborating with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes, setting clinical quality priorities, supporting shared governance, and using staff feedback for improvements. They also oversee staff selection, hiring, orientation, and performance management, including evaluations and budget management. Responsibilities: * Collaborates with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes. Sets clinical quality priorities. * Implements professional improvements and patient safety initiatives. * Uses research and evidence-based practice for clinical care improvements. * Shares improvements across units. Monitors dashboard indicators and quality metrics. * Analyzes nurse and patient satisfaction data. Develops action plans to address concerns and improve quality. * Builds teams through mentoring and positive communication. * Resolves conflicts effectively. Plans work schedules for safety and healthy lifestyles. * Communicates clearly to engage and inform * Encourages involvement in evidence-based practice and quality initiatives * Coaches on cultural diversity and addresses workplace issues * Creates an inclusive environment * Applies critical thinking and data in developing department vision * Involves stakeholders in planning and change management. Supports staff during transitions. * Promotes patient-centered care using the Relationship Based Care framework. * Ensures adherence to Clinical Standards of Performance. Promotes interdisciplinary partnerships. * Aligns clinical, financial, and HR priorities with organizational goals. Manages department budget and resource use. * Sets high performance standards. Develops staff through education and certification. * Recruits and supports nursing students. Builds leadership and communication skills in clinicians. * Supports in performance reviews and recruitment. Ensures competency of direct care providers and staff Qualifications: * Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience required * Demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate care and interaction * Understand principles of growth and development over the lifespan * Assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs * Provide care according to department policies and procedures * Relevant clinical experience preferred * Analytical ability to evaluate staff, address clinical issues, and solve complex problems * Leadership ability to develop staff and maintain performance standards * Superior interpersonal and communication skills for effective relationships * BS/BSN required at time of hire; master's degree/MSN required. If BS degree not in nursing, a master's or higher degree in nursing is required. If master's degree not in nursing, a BSN is required. If master's degree/MSN not present at hire, must enroll in a program within one year and complete within three years Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: * Registered Nurse (RN) * Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
