About the Extern Program Orlando Health's Summer Nurse Extern (SNE) Program is a competitive, full-time, 8-week paid summer externship. An externship in nursing at Orlando Health will give you experience engaging with an essential piece of the profession… patients! SNE's have an opportunity to: Expose you to nursing departments or procedural areas you have not experienced such as: Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, Operating Rooms, Neonatal ICU, Cardiac Catheterization Labs, Oncology/Chemotherapy and many more! Work directly with a trained preceptor… 1-on-1! This is an amazing opportunity to build a relationship with your preceptor and see first-hand a day in the life of a nurse at Orlando Health! Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue your learning journey Build your confidence as a future nurse Work at one hospital on an assigned unit (assignment shared at the time of offer) Work up to 36 hours/week (Note: SNE's follow their preceptor's schedule. May work day, night, or mid-shift.) Explore/apply to system-wide nursing opportunities before you even leave the program! It doesn't end there! During your externship program, you will have the opportunity to network with Orlando Health nursing leadership, give back to the community, receive mentorship, and, most importantly, impact patient care. Phillips Hospital Orlando Health - Health Central Hospital Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Qualifications Qualifications Currently enrolled in an accredited Associates or Bachelors of nursing program with an expected graduation date of Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026 required (Note: At the start time of the program, June 2, 2025, you must have completed at least your junior year or equivalent) Availability to participate in the SNE Program full-time from June 2, 2025 - July 26, 2024, with minimal absence required Actively participated in an association (school club, community association, affiliation with an association, etc.), from January 2023 - November 2024, or has completed community service or volunteer events since January 2023 Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 Preference will be given to those students wanting to pursue a nursing career at Orlando Health upon graduation Attendance at SNE Program orientation required (June 2nd - 6th and June 9th - 10th) Licensure/Certifications Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification throughout the entire summer is required Additional clearances may be required based on location and specialty; specific instructions will be provided during onboarding/prior to start date Responsibilities Important Note: Please ensure you are check your email address used during the application process for any application status updates (including checking your spam inbox for correspondence from Orlando Health).
