This career guide spotlights 21 healthcare careers poised to experience above-average job growth (above 6%) from 2023 to 2033. For each career listed, we share projected career growth from the BLS and the average and highest salary rates available for staff and travel jobs based on Vivian Health’s salary data obtained on November 18, 2024. We determined annual staff salaries by multiplying the average hourly rate by a 40-hour workweek and 52 weeks a year. The list also includes education requirements and relevant certifications to provide additional requirements for starting a career in each field.
1. Nurse Practitioner
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who provides primary and specialty healthcare services. They can diagnose and treat illnesses, order tests, prescribe medications and focus on preventive care. NPs often work independently or alongside physicians to manage patient care. NP positions are rapidly increasing to address the national shortage of primary care physicians.
