Overview of HCA Healthcare

Dr. Thomas Frist and Jack Massey founded HCA Healthcare’s first hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1968. As one of the first healthcare companies in the U.S., this for-profit hospital’s goal was to expand and serve communities needing better access to medical care.

Since its inception, HCA Healthcare has expanded tremendously and now provides exceptional care across 21 states and the United Kingdom. HCA has 13 Centers for Clinical Advancement, where new nurses hone their clinical skills. Specialized manikins simulate numerous patient conditions and react to the learner’s interventions. Trained facilitators reinforce learning and provide a debrief after each learning experience.

Partnership with Galen College of Nursing Program

Through its partnership with the Galen College of Nursing, HCA Healthcare offers nursing programs where students can build a strong foundation for their careers. Starting in 2022, students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program can take a new specialty elective course in oncology care. The oncology elective course is one of the first of its kind and collaborates with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare.
