About
An IV Certified Pharmacist is a licensed pharmacist (or pharmacy technician) who has completed specialized training in the preparation, handling and administration of sterile intravenous (IV) medications. An IV certification is an official credential stating that a pharmacist is capable and authorized to administer IV medications or supplements.
This certification ensures pharmacists possess the necessary knowledge and skills to safely compound sterile preparations, adhering to stringent standards such as USP 797. IV Pharmacists working in hospitals, infusion centers and other healthcare settings where sterile compounding is a critical component of patient care typically pursue this certification, which may be mandatory by their employer.
