About
The Case Management Nurse – Board Certified credential (CMGT-BC) credential is available through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The CMGT-BC is relevant for nurses with expertise in the assessment, coordination, and planning of care for clients with complex healthcare needs.
Nursing certification is provided to professionals who have demonstrated current knowledge and skills within their practice specialty. For nurses working with clients in case management, the specialty certification provides validation of their commitment to quality care coordination for the complex care population.
Applicants for the CMGT-BC credential may apply online via the ANCC.
Costs
The cost is $295 for American Nurses Association (ANA) members and $395 for non-members. The retake fee is $270. Applicants may retake the exam up to three times in a 12-month period.
Course Format
The certification exam is 150 multiple-choice questions with three hours allotted for the exam completion.
Certification
To be eligible for the CMGT-BC certification, the following are required:
Current, active RN license in a state or territory of the United States or hold the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country.
Completion of 2 years full-time as a registered nurse.
Minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in nursing case management within the last 3 years.
Completion of 30 hours of continuing education in nursing case management within the last 3 years.
Renewal
The CMGT-BC certification is valid for five years. The cost is $250 for American Nurses Association (ANA) members and $350 for non-members.
Recertification for the CMGT-BC requires the completion of 75 CEs in the specialty of case management, in addition to one or more of the eight ANCC renewal categories.
The following are also required:
A current ANCC certification expires within 12 months.
A current, active RN license in a state or territory of the United States or the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country.
For renewal of the CMGT-BC certification, the applicant can submit their materials during the 12 months before their certification expiration date.
