About
The Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) credential, offered by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT), is a professional certification for individuals specializing in assisting with anesthesia care. This certification recognizes proficiency in the technical and clinical support aspects of anesthesia, including equipment preparation and maintenance, patient monitoring, and assistance during anesthesia procedures. This certification is available for renewal only.
Renewal
ASATT no longer administers the Technician Certification exam, but it is still recognized for individuals who have already obtained it. The CerA.T. expires every 2 years on December 31st.
After becoming certified or recertified, individuals must earn continuing education credits within their two-year certification period. Newly certified individuals must wait for their designated two-year certification period to begin. Individuals holding the Cer.A.T. certification must earn 20 CEUs during their two-year certification period.
The recertification fee is $100 for ASATT members and $450 for non-members. CerA.T. certification holders have 3 options for renewal:
Option 1 – Online (Members with CEs already in database)
Starting November 1, ASATT members who already have all CEs recorded in the database can renew online.
Payment must be made by credit card.
Option 2 – Online (Upload CEs + Credit Card Payment)
For members who need to upload CE documentation, online recertification is available (credit card required).
Third-party CEUs must be individually approved, and applicants pay a processing fee:
.25–10.75 CEUs: $10 per CE
11–15.75 CEUs: $15 per CE
16–20.75 CEUs: $20 per CE
21–25.75 CEUs: $25 per CE
26–30 CEUs: $30 per CE
Estimated total cost if all CEUs are third-party, excluding the recertification fee is $275
BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses from AHA or Red Cross are exempt from processing fees if accredited.
Option 3 – Mail-in with Check
The recertification form is available online on November 1st.
Submit by mail the application form, copy of database recertification record, proof of any missing CEs, and correct recertification fee with check.
Late packets (after December 31) must include an additional $75 late fee.
