COURSE FORMAT
About
The Bachelor in Midwifery (BSM) degree and credential are awarded through the National College of Midwifery (NCM). The BSM degree is designed for healthcare providers who support women during labor and childbirth. It provides strong academic and evidence-based knowledge and skills to prepare students for direct entry into the field of midwifery without a nursing degree or license.
Direct-entry midwifery is distinct from the discipline of nursing. A direct-entry midwife is a skilled and professional independent midwifery practitioner educated in the discipline of midwifery, trained to provide the Midwives Model of Care to healthy people and newborns throughout the childbearing cycle. Midwives work primarily out of the hospital and may serve rural and underserved populations.
The BSM program is for healthcare providers who work in an obstetrical setting but need or want a degree. The college also offers an associate degree for those without previous education or work experience.
