Major Responsibilities:<ul><li>Competently operates ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular and/or cardiac procedures/studies. Accurately differentiates between normal and pathologic findings.</li><li>Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, obtains necessary clinical information from patients, and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.</li><li>Positions patient and selects proper transducer and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures. Adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images. Ensures safety, mental and physical comfort of patient.</li><li>Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.</li><li>Accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.</li><li>Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.</li><li>Identifies equipment performance issues, communicates to appropriate staff, and evaluates new products and equipment for possible future use.</li><li>Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.</li><li>Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.</li></ul> Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:<ul><li>Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and</li><li>Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and</li><li>Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, or</li><li>Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, or</li><li>Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and</li><li>Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, or</li><li>Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and</li><li>Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.</li></ul> Education Required:<ul><li>Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography.</li></ul> Experience Required:<ul><li>No experience required.</li></ul> Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities Required:<ul><li>Competency in all general and/or vascular sonographic procedures routinely performed in the hiring department.</li><li>Ability to use independent judgment to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.</li><li>Knowledge of aseptic techniques.</li><li>Ability to effectively communicate with patients and caregivers using excellent interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>Knowledge of and adherence to department, facility and organization policies and protocols.</li><li>Ability to prioritize, work independently and manage simultaneous assignments.</li><li>Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change.</li></ul> Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:<ul><li>Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday.</li><li>Must be able to:</li><li>- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.</li><li>- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.</li><li>- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.</li><li>Must be able to:</li><li>- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.</li><li>- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.</li><li>Must have clear speech, vision and hearing.</li><li>May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.</li><li>Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.</li></ul> This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. Major Responsibilities:<ul><li>Performance of comprehensive non-invasive, invasive and vascular procedures to demonstrate (OB/GYN) anatomy under investigation.<ul><li>    1)Provides physiologic assessment of OB/GYN vasculature and fetal well-being.</li><li>    2)Independently provides technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnosis of the high risk OB/GYN patient.</li><li>    3)Combines clinical history while performing sonographic study to summarize findings of the study and upon completion of the study has the responsibility of documenting information/action to the appropriate physician</li><li>    4)Assists physicians during invasive procedures which include amniocentesis, sonohysterograms, endometrial biopsies, and chorionic villi sampling.</li></ul></li><li>Documentation of patient history and results of study.<ul><li>    1)Reviews patient history by clinical information available from charts and one-on-one verbal review of clinical history with patient.</li><li>    2)Summary of findings by imaging technologist must be entered onto the Perinatal computer network which requires advanced knowledge of operation of both computer hardware and software.</li><li>    3)Notification of appropriate physician of summary of findings</li></ul></li><li>Displays competent understanding and operation of ultrasound equipment<ul><li>    1)Reports any malfunctions to the manager. If manager is unavailable, contact proper company for repairs, if needed.</li><li>    2)Able to perform start-up and shut down procedures on all equipment</li><li>    3)Ability to operate all ultrasound equipment in a competent manner</li><li>    4)Able to modify technical factors as situations warrants</li><li>    5)Insures that images are labeled with patient identification properly</li><li>    6)Performs problem solving as situation warrants ie equipment malfunction, and physical limitations of equipment.</li><li>    7)Handles all equipment with care.</li></ul></li><li>Delivery of patient care<ul><li>    1)Responsible for the welfare and care of all patients directly under their control; i.e, implementation of immobilization devices as necessary for patient safety and comfort.</li><li>    2)Introduces self and explains exam to patient.</li><li>    3)Reconfirms patient identification with the 2 patient ID and verified procedure requested.</li><li>    4)Uses scripting when required.</li><li>    5)Maintains positive customer relations including proper phone etiquette..</li><li>    6)Professional manner must be displayed in relating to patients, physicians, family members, etc at all times.</li></ul></li><li>Displays competent understanding of patient positioning and image critique.<ul><li>    1)Ability to competently position patients for all ultrasound exams.</li><li>    2)Perform problem solving as it relates to physical limitations of patient during patient positioning</li><li>    3)Competent to perform film reviews to determine if more views are necessary to complete the exam.</li><li>    4)Has minimal amount of repeat work.</li></ul></li><li>Participates in professional development.<ul><li>    1)Attends continuing education seminars and keeps abreast of current literature.</li><li>    2)Maintains professional accreditation in ARDMS and Nuchal Translucency certification.</li><li>    3)Attends departmental meetings.</li><li>    4)Maintains required amount of CME credits for ARDMS</li><li>    5)Participates in problem solving that would improve quality for the department</li><li>    6)Maintains CPR certification</li><li>    7)Provides directions and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance.</li></ul></li><li>Other Duties<ul><li>    1)Ensures a secure, safe patient and work environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazard labels, pathology specimens, complete laboratory requisitions and deliveries to appropriate laboratory.</li><li>    2)Cleans, prepares and sanitizes aspiration handles and endocavity transducers for invasive procedures and endovaginal/translabial imaging according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection controls.</li><li>    3)Applies sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments</li><li>    4)Maintains adequate supplies (gel, film, syringes) in US rooms and notifies manager if supplies are depleted.</li></ul></li><li>Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.<ul><li>    1)Enters charges for completed procedures</li><li>    2)Communicates with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.</li><li>    3)Assumes lead position as necessary in the absence of Lead Technologist and/or department supervisor.</li><li>    4)Interacts closely with the Ultrasound Team Lead and department supervisor to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.</li><li>    5)Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.</li><li>    6)Assists in orientation of Ultrasound Department personnel.</li><li>    7)Helps in answering telephones, reviewing physician’s orders, as needed or other related duties as requested by department supervisor</li></ul></li></ul> Education/Experience Required:<ul><li>• Graduate of AMA approved school of ultrasound. • 2 years OB/GYN experience • Must become proficient in fetal echos within 1 year of hire date</li></ul> Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities Required:<ul><li>• Good skills in OB/GYN and pelvic ultrasound exams • Good skills in endovaginal scanning. • Good skills in OB/GYN color duplex scanning. • Good skills and knowledge of pathology in high risk OB/GYN imaging.</li><li>• ARDMS-Registered in OB • Certified in performing Nuchal Translucency • CPR certification</li></ul> Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:<ul><li>• Requires good judgment, needs, reliability, responsibility, independent thought and action. • Extreme flexibility in working hours. • Standing for long periods of time. • Perform emergency procedures as required. • Moving of equipment to bedside. • Additional Information: • Attend additional in-services to keep up with 30 hours accreditation. • Attend annual in-services on fire safety, infection control to meet department safety requirements. -Strong oral and written communication skills -Strong organizational skills -Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy</li><li>If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.
