What is an EMT or ER Tech?
Emergency medical technicians and emergency room technicians are allied health professionals who specialize in helping deliver emergency care. EMTs and ER techs have similar job requirements and responsibilities, but they have very different work settings, certification and licensure requirements, and workloads. EMTs are dispatched to the scene of an emergency by a 911 operator and are responsible for providing medical care as they transport patients to the hospital. ER techs work under the supervision of RNs and doctors at the hospital emergency departments where these patients are taken, and may also be EMTs as well. Both may assist in providing immediate lifesaving medical care and are important links in the emergency healthcare system.
